Content:

There are two units of study in Year 10 Geography:

  • Environmental Change & Management – How do we look after the world we live in? This focuses on an in-depth study of a specific environment. Students will examine local environments and how people have impacted them. Local fieldwork, research and survey analysis will be used to examine problems and solutions.
  • Geographies of Human Wellbeing – Why do people live where they do and what do we need to make us happy in those places?  This unit focuses on investigating global, national and local differences in human wellbeing between places.  Students will examine data on world population and analyse how we can measure happiness and wellbeing in relation to where people live. Local surveys and fieldwork will be conducted.

The key inquiry questions:

  1. What impact do humans have on the places they live and play in?
  2. How can we make sure these places stay healthy both now and in the future?
  3. How do world views influence decisions on how to manage environmental and social change?

Assessment:

Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Achievement Standards as outlined in the framework of the Australian Curriculum. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes. Students identify, analyse and explain. They predict changes, evaluate alternative views and draw a reasoned conclusion.

Students will research and critically evaluate a range of primary and secondary sources to select and collect relevant, reliable and unbiased geographical information and data. They use a range of methods and digital technologies to interpret and analyse maps, data to draw reasoned conclusions.
