  • product design (e.g. design a new sneaker)

It emphasises a problem-solving approach to the generation of ideas or concepts, and the development of visual representation skills to communicate resolutions.

As per the Years 7 and 8 Band Description, in this semester subject, students are expected to:

  • experiment with design conventions and techniques, including exploration of techniques used by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander designers, to represent a theme, concept or idea in their designs
  • develop ways to enhance their intentions as designers through exploration of how designers use materials, techniques, technologies and processes
  • develop planning skills for design-making by exploring techniques and processes used by different designers
  • practise techniques and processes to enhance representation of ideas in their design-making
  • present designs demonstrating consideration of how the work is displayed to enhance the designer’s intention to an audience
  • analyse how designers use visual conventions in design
  • identify and connect specific features and purposes of designs from contemporary and historical periods to explore viewpoints and enrich their design-making, starting with Australian/Aboriginal designs

Assessment:

Student performance will be determined according to the subject’s Achievement Standards as outlined in the framework of the Australian Curriculum. Grades A to E will be used for reporting purposes. This includes assessment of achievement in both making and responding to works of design.
